There were jubilant scenes in Thurles yesterday as Tipperary senior Hurlers defeated Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship group match. Tipp won on a score line of Tipperary 1 – 30 Waterford 1 – 21.
The start of the game was delayed by 10 minutes as there where thousands of fans still to enter the stadium with complaints that not enough stiles ere open to handle the crowd of approximately 29,000. Limerick defeated Cork on a score line of 3-26 to 1-16.
Next weekend the final two group matches will see Cork facing Waterford and Limerick taking on Clare to decide which two teams will meet in the Munster final and with the team that is placed third qualifying for a preliminary All Ireland quarter final. Tipperary are guaranteed at least a third place finish in Munster with 5 points from 4 games. The winner of the Munster final on June 7 is straight through to an All Ireland semi-final and the runner up is through to the quarter finals.
