West Tipperary is experiencing significant water outages today.
Ballinulty, Ballinard and Ballyglass areas in the Glen of Aherlow are without water again today. Residents say they noticed low pressure last night. This is the third outage in the last 8 days. Uisce Eireann repaired a burst water mains pipe on May 12th and second burst mains pipe was repaired on May 14th. Residents say Uisce Eireann don’t seem to know there is an outage when contacted by customers. One resident is highlighting that over the last 3 years there have been 23 outages which makes life difficult for humans, animals and plants.
A pumping station fault is causing supply disruptions to Mount Bruis, Ardlomen, Kilross, Shronell, Lattin, Glenbane, Cullen, Emly Lisvernane, Bansha, Longford Pass, Rossadrehid, Cordangan, Aherlow, Ross Bog and surrounding areas today. The repairs are scheduled to take place until 5pm today – full supply may not return for 3 to 4 hours after repairs are completed.
In addition the residents are frustrated as local Councillors say they have no control over water services and that only Uisce Eireann can respond. The Government removed Water Services from Local Councils and wants Uisce Eireann to be an Independent Utility company with it’s own employees and contractors.
The Uisce Eireann Customer Care line is staffed 24 hours every day and can be contacted by calling 1 800 278 278. The company also offers customers a text notification service about water outages – both planned and unplanned that last more than 4 hours. Customers can register by entering their Eircode and mobile phone number at this link here.
