The N74/Cashel Road in Tipperary town is expected to operate as a two way street from May 26th.

The road way will have to be fully resurfaced and lined with road markings before two-way traffic on the N74 resumes. The St Michael’s Avenue entrance closest to Cashel is scheduled to reopen next Tuesday May 20th and the three way junction at the Knockanrawley Road will be resurfaced starting on May 26th which may cause temporary traffic delays and diversions. The construction project has been ongoing for 12 months and with traffic diverted via Knockanrawley to the Bansha Road.

Sinn Fein Councillor Anne Marie Ryan is expressing concerns that the N74 road project in Tipperary town will leave some residents without convenient parking and that the project may also cause parking difficulties for those attending funerals in St Michael’s Graveyard.

The roadway has been narrowed near the Graveyard and new planting installed on the Graveyard side. The car park is to be resurfaced with marked parking spaces adjacent to the railing including 3 disabled parking spaces.

The contractor expects to have the project finished by the end of the month. However, some work to remove overhead cables by ESB Networks and final landscaping may be later than the end of May. The project, over a distance of 1100m from Bank Place to the town limits on the Cashel side, has seen the N74 road way narrowed, footpaths widened and some parking removed. There has also been new piping for gas, telecoms and water services and work to solve flooding issues near Sean Allen Terrace.   The project details can be found on a dedicated website www.N74tipperarytown.ie.
