The recent dry spell is making hiking conditions on local mountains more dangerous according to the South East Mountain Rescue Association.

The team had to respond to calls from the same section of the  Coumshingaun Loop on Thursday and again on Saturday.

The dry conditions have made the stones underfoot to become loose and more risky for walkers descending.

Rescue helicopter 117 assisted the SEMRA team with both calls – while both casualties suffered leg injuries the person falling on Saturday also sustained a head injury.

Both Calls for assistance came from Garda in the afternoon shortly after 2pm which made the rescues a little easier.

The injured walkers were winched from the site to the helicopter after members of SEMRA had provided fist aid and applied a splint to the leg injury.

SEMRA is headquartered in Clonmel.
