Drivers who use the N24 route between Cahir and Clonmel are advised of upcoming major road works. The N24 and the local Road L3167 to Barne will be closed at Knockagh Roundabout, Cahir each night from 7pm until 6am from Wednesday May 21st until Saturday May 25th.
Traffic will be diverted along the R687, the R639 and the N24 – this will lead to extra traffic on these routes during the night time closure at Knockagh. Traffic will be diverted from the N24 at Clogherbreeda and Barne via Poulmucka and New Inn. Local access will be allowed.
The closure is to enable major road resurfacing works to be completed and some minor drainage measures. This section of the N24 had a collision rate twice the rate of other parts of the N24. Cllr Andy Moloney has pressed for an intervention by Transport Infrastructure Ireland. Initially the road surface at Knockagh Roundabout was addressed leading to a reduction in incidents of cars losing control on the road. A new barrier was also installed. The upcoming project will see the road surface on 1.2km of the N24 upgraded and a bicycle lane installed. In time it is hoped to have a cycle path to the Apple Farm and also to link Cahir to Cashel via some form of Greenway or Cycle path.
