Five Tipperary Schools In National Finals Of The Junk Kouture Fashion Competition Tonight

Five entries from Tipperary schools will take to the stage in The Helix, in Dublin tonight for the National finals of the Junk Kouture Fashion competition which invites post-primary school students to design, create, and model jaw-dropping creations – all made from recycled items.

Each design featured in the show is aligned with at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging students to use fashion as a vehicle for change and to address environmental and social issues through creativity.

Alanna Manton, Emma Hobbert and Sarah from Cashel Community School created their design No M-Alice in this Palace from old book pages and used tea bags. Georgia Murphy, Leah Costello-Corry and Katie Coonan from Ursuline Secondary School, Thurles created Chrysalis from nitrile rubber off-cuts from hydraulic seals and old plastic melting beads. A second Ursuline qualifier features Sinead O’Dwyer, Jessica Fogarty-Quinn and Katie Flanagan using the All-Ireland hurling final gold confetti to make Presence Pitch Player.

Loreto in Clonmel  are represented by Caoimhe Dalton-Greene, Elyzah Dela Cuesta and Lucy O’Mahony with Inflation Sensation created from till rolls, copper wires and wrapping paper.  Borrisokane Community College will model Tears of Ice by Alina Taferner, Olive Robinson and Emily Tracey created from Tin Cans and Plastic Bottles. Ten of tonight’s 60 finalists will be selected  to represent Ireland at the world finals.
