Details for a proposed new solar farm on the Eastern side of Cashel have been published on a dedicated website www.patricksrocksolar.ie  The project is being led by energy company Statkraft, a leading company in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. Statkraft has around 7,000 employees in more than 20 countries.

Maps displayed on the website patricksrocksolar.ie indicate that the farm would be over 3 areas on the eastern side of the M8 roughly between Junctions 7 and 8 near Boscabell and Kilscobin and a third location near Mocklershill at Kilconnell and Kilsallagh.

This proposal is still at design stage with Statkraft hoping to submit the planning application to Tipperary County Council by Summer. The company has a community engagement team available to liaise with the local community to discuss the various aspects of this proposal and how it could bring the most benefit to the local area.

The project would provide 125 MWp energy to the Irish electricity grid and include a 110kV on-site substation. The company intends to observe a 50 meter set back from all properties and says a Community Benefit Fund of approximately €193,000 per year for the local area would be included. The estimated development levies payable to Tipperary County Council  are €337,000.

Statkrafts Community Liaison officer for the project is John Lowry( 087 429 6496). The public can also email to [email protected].  Statkraft is operating from Axis Business Park, Clara Road Tullamore, Co Offaly.
