The Cathedral of the Assumption in Thurles is to host a major concert on Friday night.
The concert features the 80 strong Ormond Octaves Choir based in Nenagh with special guests, local school choirs and members of the Tipperary Music Generation Programme.
The Ormond Octaves Choir was formed in 2008 by Niamh Ryan originally from Golden and now living in Toomevara.
Ms Ryan was music teacher in St Anne’s Tipperary town until last year.
The choir gives an annual Christmas concert in Nenagh and two charity performances during the year.
The proceeds of Friday night’s event will go towards the Cathedral Reroofing Fund.
The music will be a mix of popular, classical, traditional Irish airs and spiritual songs and includes soloists such as Willie O’Brien, Liam Brennan, Marie McElgunn, Eithne Kennedy, Niamh Slattery and Robbie Powell.
The song Slievenamon may be the highlight as the Choir, Willie O’Brien and musicians from the Music Generation Programme perform the Tipperary anthem.
Tickets are available in the Parish Offices in Nenagh, Thurles(0504 22229) and Holycross and in Bookworm Bookstore in Thurles.
The event begins at 8pm and there will be a short intermission. The Cathedral doors open at 7pm.
