The road works in Tipperary Town on the Cashel Road will be completed by the end of May according to Tipperary county Council allowing two-way traffic to resume at that time. The project commenced in May 2024.
Starting on Wednesday April 30th local traffic diversions will be in place from 8pm until 7am each night to allow surfacing works take place at night-time from the Lidl store entrance at Bank Place/Main Street/N24 through the Bansha Road Roundabout and up to the Dundrum Road Junction on the N74/Cashel Road – this traffic management will be in place until May 2nd.
The Council says work on a section of the N74/Cashel Road from the Dundrum Road Junction to the town limits on the Cashel side will commence on May 6th and be completed in three phases by May 30th. These three phases are – firstly the eastern side of Dundrum Junction up to Knockanrawley Junction, Works will be done on the Left hand side followed by the Right hand side with Stop and Go Traffic management, secondly the work will see the road from the start of graveyard out to end of the works as the contractor mills out and resurfaces the road. Works will alternate between left and right.
The contractor will then move back closer to town for the final section – the Knockanrawley Road Junction, where 3-way traffic lights will control traffic as the road surface is removed and replaced. Single traffic will be maintained for cars only.
Heavy Goods Vehicles are to be diverted away from Fr Matthew Street 24/7 until May 30th to allow excavation/surfacing works to be carried out safely. This is likely to impact residents in Knockanrawley and Rosanna Road areas as drivers use alternative routes. The council has not released details of specific diversion roads for HGVs.
Start dates for work to underground ESB wires and to install new Public Lighting from the Bansha Road Roundabout along the Cashel road(N74) is dependent on the availability of ESB network crews. Pedestrian crossings will be installed when the ESB work is completed.
The Council says the final phase of road resurfacing and marking will cause disruption and asks for the public to contact the Contractor or the Council with any specific issues – contact Niall Casey, Glas Civil Engineering at 087 7957787 or Tipperary Council 0818 06 5000.
