There has been a further increase in the numbers of people in emergency accommodation because they are homeless.
The Department of Housing figures for March show that 15,418 people are in Emergency Accommodation because they presented as homeless to their local Council. The total is made up of 10,743 adults and 4,675 children. The increase of 40 compared to February is made up of 18 additional adults and 22 additional children entering homelessness.
County Tipperary reports that there are 73 people in emergency accommodation this is down from 81 in February. County Limerick reports an increase of ten compared to February with 515 people now in Emergency Accommodation.
The figures do not include people sleeping rough, in their car or in overcrowded or insecure accommodation. It does not include people who may have claimed asylum in Ireland but have received no offer any of accommodation estimated at between 2 and 3 thousand persons.
