The Galtee Honey Farm will feature on BBC One Northern Ireland tonight at 8pm. The local business had a visit from Chef Anna Haugh and Thurles’ Una Healy to highlight the work behind making honey and supporting bees. The programme is the latest episode of the Big Irish Food Tour.
Owner Aoife Nic Giolla Coda’s shares the process to provide the farm’s award-winning honey and their work to support and protect the Native Irish Black Honey Bee. Galtee Honey Farm, founded by Aoife’s father in 1970, is leading the way in sustainable beekeeping and preserving Ireland’s unique honey bee heritage — all while producing some of the finest honey available.
The farm is one of many Tipperary based food producers that are involved in Food production in the county and supported by the Tipperary Food Producers Network led by Helen King. The farm has over 10 Million bees in 170 hives.
The TV show is the second time the farm based near Burncourt has featured on TV this year after the Galtee Honey Farm participated in the RTE Show Raised by the Village when Megan, a teenager from Dublin, enjoyed a hugely successful visit living and working on the farm for a week.
