A group of Community First Responders in Bansha are appealing for public support in a fundraising effort. A Go Fund Me appeal in the name of Bansha Community First Responders has raised just over €1,400 of a €10,000 target.
The Group responds to emergency calls such as cardiac arrests, choking incidents or strokes. The volunteers are trained to give medical aid until Paramedics or National Ambulance Personnel arrive at the incident. The group held a training session over the weekend in Lisvernane that included a refresher session and a session dedicated to responding to a full incident. The group will respond to incidents in the Lisvernane, Bansha and Kilfeacle areas.
The group was formed in 2024 and 100% of money raised goes to equipping the first responders to provide medical assistance in advance of an ambulance arriving on scene. The group is highlighting that an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) – costs approximately €1,500. Replacement pads for the AED after each use cost €80, consumable materials such as Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) masks, gloves and antibacterial sprays can cost €25 per responder per incident. The volunteers also need Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) such as Hi vis jackets, torches etc. at an average cost of €50 per volunteer.
