The Department of Housing has published its monthly data on the number of Commencement Notices for new homes for March 2025.
For county Tipperary the number of housing commencements in 2025 has effectively collapsed with 7 units commenced in the first quarter, down dramatically compared to 170 in the first quarter of 2024. The first quarter figures for county Tipperary are the lowest since 2015 when 18 units were commenced.
The data shows that 723 homes commenced in March 2025 across Ireland – 270 of these were one off residential units.
Across Ireland on a rolling 12 month basis (April 2024 to March 2025) 59,989 homes were commenced which is up 60% from the previous 12 months (where there were 37,441 homes commenced).
The data is used as a guideline to construction activity – the data on house/apartment completions will be published later this month.
