Cashel retail is facing a historic change with news that Daverns Clothing store in the town centre will be sold as the owner Raymond Davern is retiring. Mr Davern highlights that his four adult children Donal, Ciarán, Brían and daughter Aisling –  all chose different career paths.

The business, selling ladies and gents fashion, is thriving with €2M in annual turnover and Mr Davern feels the time is right to retire and spend time traveling with his wife Carmel -especially in Ireland.

The business was founded by his grandmother Mary Davern nee Corbett from Borrisoleigh with her husband Paddy Davern. Their first shop was in Tipperary town and they then moved to Cashel in 1926. The present location in Cashel opened in 1964.  Mr Davern says his family has always had a strong work ethic and credits his father for expanding the offering over the years as economic conditions in Ireland improved. In addition, he recognises that Cashel benefited from significant passing trade located on the old Dublin/Cork route before the M8 was built. The recent investment by Coolmore and others in the town centre continues to make the town a destination for both businesses and pleasure according to Mr Davern who says it has been a pleasure to care for customers and staff alike down through the years.
