Emergency services deployed a helicopter to deal with a fire in the Glen of Aherlow yesterday evening located close to Rock an Thorabh on the Ballagh road.  Fire Service personnel from Cahir and Tipperary town also responded. The alarm was raised at approximately 2.30pm and the crews were on site until approximately 11pm according to Carol Kennedy, Assistant Fire Chief with Tipperary Fire Service. No injuries are reported and Coillte is assessing the damage caused.

The cause of the fire is unknown as of now – the fire was located in a Coillte Forest. The company requested the assistance of an Army Helicopter to fight the fire. Locals watched as the Helicopter extracted water from the river in Rossadrehid to tackle the blaze.

It is understood that due to changes in the structure of the fire service in the county each fire station will have only one crew operating. When they are deployed the neighbouring station will be their back up. During yesterday’s Fire Clonmel station was covering Cahir during the fire and Tipperary town area would have been covered by Cashel as the Tipperary crew were also in the Glen fighting the fire.
