Two South Tipperary TDs are to meet with the Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien tomorrow to discuss the N24 Cahir to Waterford Road project.
Deputy Michael Murphy and Deputy Mattie McGrath want the project to be completed to final design and planning permission stage. The project received €80,000 in funding in the recent National Roads Funding allocation. Deputy Murphy says his understanding is that this funding tis to compensate the Design team for the ending of work on the Project. Full details of the project can be found on the https://n24waterford2cahir.ie website.
Kilkenny County Council are leading the project with ARUP Consulting the lead designers. The project had completed Phase 2 of 4 stages in road design in early in 2024. The project would see the construction of two new link roads in Clonmel and by passes for Kilsheelan , Carrick on Suir and Mooncoin in addition to upgrades to part of the existing N24 between Waterford and Cahir. Upwards of €5M has been spend on the project to date and planning applications that are within the study corridor for the project are not being progressed by Tipperary County Council. If the project is ended this may mean that all planning applications for residential or commercial development will be decided by the council.
The other section of the N24 upgrade from Cahir towards Limerick is progressing with an allocation of €2.5M to fund the completion of the design and planning application preparation by the end of this year.
