284

The Government is to increase the funding available for the CLÁR programme and to possibly expand the areas that are eligible to apply for funding following a review of the scheme that has now commenced. The budget for this year’s programme has increased to €11 million.

Under the initiative, funding will be provided across three measures: (Measure 1) the development of community facilities and amenities including sports facilities, youth clubs, teenage spaces, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks,(Measure 2) funding for community transport such as cancer care support, community first responders, meals on wheels vehicles, or for persons with reduced mobility – the third category relates to offshore island communities.

Tipperary County Council must make the application to the Department for  measure 1  by June 13th and  for measure 2 by May 23rd  respectively.

Large parts of West Tipperary are eligible for the CLÁR Programme – including areas such as Emly, Lattin, Clonoulty West, Ballykisteen, Sologhead, Shronell, Donohill, and Cullen.

The level of funding for community facilities and amenities has increased from €50,000 to €65,000, with a new option this year for local authorities to apply for funding of up to €100,000 for 2 larger scale projects.
