The Clonmel Water Supply Upgrade continues to progress with more than 4km of a new 15km water main now installed along the R689 Fethard Road. Pipe laying works are also in progress along the Cashel Road and are being carried out in coordination with the Active Travel Scheme to minimise disruption on the community.
The general public in Clonmel is invited to a community Information event on Monday April 7th in the Talbot hotel scheduled from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The project, estimated to cost €18M, is intended to safeguard supply into the future and provide improved resilience to the network.
The project also includes an upgrade to the treatment facilities at Monroe Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and upgrades to the Rathronan Pump Station which will connect the Monroe supply to the Clonmel North reservoir and Poulavanogue network. The project will also address water quality risks for customers on the town’s Poulavanogue supply, allowing it to be taken off the EPA’s Remedial Action List. In addition the Glenary Water Treatment Plant is being upgraded and 1.3 km of new water main piping is being installed that will connect the plant to Glenary reservoir. Concerns are being expressed that the switch to a hard water source will cause problems and extra costs for households and businesses. Uisce Eireann have declined to soften the water before distribution.
The next phase of works will advance over the summer months on the L-3279 Rathronan Cross to Clashaniska and on Thomas Street and Dillon Street. The entire project is to be completed in early 2026.
