A project to revamp a water feature at the Tipperary County Council offices on Rosanna Road, Tipperary town, is expected to provide a “rain garden” habitat in the town.
The water feature at the Council office was not being regularly maintained and the light and fountain fixtures underneath the water had been damaged by abuse due to anti-social behaviour.
A project involving the Council and Tipperary Tidy Towns and Alley Nurseries in Dundrum will now see the space transformed with a special blend of peat type soil that would benefit from extra moisture and suitable plants to support Biodiversity and also be Pollinator Friendly. Rainwater harvesting will recycle water through the new feature.
The new feature will also be used as an educational platform for children in local schools and may also enhance the marks awarded to Tipperary town Tidy Towns Group in the 2025 Competition.
