Cllr Liam Browne Reports Progress On Repairs To Public Lighting In Oliver Plunkett Park Estate In Cashel

Cllr Liam Browne is reporting progress on repairs on the Public Lighting in Oliver Plunkett Park Estate in Cashel.  A new power supply was fitted, and while it fixed most issues, it burned out a cable feeding between 45 and 50 houses. These lights have been fitted with a temporary supply, and contractors will return next week to fit a permanent one.  The existing wiring and fixtures are old making replacement parts difficult to source.

Cllr Browne is hopeful that the lights will remain working for the short to medium term and that in the longer term all of the fixtures will be replaced with the more modern LED lighting which uses less energy.

All Local Authorities contract out repairs to public lighting. The current service provider is Al Read Electrical Company based in Dublin and public lights that are in need of repair can be reported on a dedicated website available here.

Tipperary County Council has responsibility for approximately 18,000 public lights in the county and is currently taking part in the National Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project which will see 11,600 lights upgraded to LED lighting across Tipperary at a cost of approximately €7m.
