The pedestrians were brothers Martin and Anthony Gallagher aged in their 60s – both men were hospitalised following the 3am collision and Anthony Gallagher, who worked as a school traffic warden, died later in Letterkenny hospital – the second man has been transferred to University Hospital Galway in serious condition. Garda arrested the driver of the car, a male aged in his teens. A Garda spokesperson says the driver had an earlier interaction with Gardaí and because of this the matter has been referred to The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC). The man has since been released without charge. Files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and Garda Youth Diversion Bureau.
