This year sees a renewed effort to mark the national Holiday with no fewer than 13 major events planned over the St Patrick’s Weekend in County Tipperary.
The honour for being the first parade county Tipperary goes to Newport who will hold their parade on Saturday March 15th at 12.30pm.
Three communities are celebrating the big day on Sunday. Ballylooby will have their parade at noon. At 2pm the Cashel Parade will leave the Bru Boru Car park to march to the town centre via Friar Street, The Green and Boherclough back to the Plaza. A special sensory area is being offered at the front of Halla na Féile. Call to book places 087 407 6461. Cashel is also attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people wearing flat caps in one place at Sunday’s event – gather at Halla na Féile at 4pm.
Carrick on Suir is hosting a major three county event with a theme of Unity, Community and Collaboration. The hinterland festival parade will begin at 1pm and the festival will continue until 5pm giving neighbours from Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny the chance to celebrate.
Nine communities are holding their events on Monday March 17th
Littleton will be the first in action at 10.30am with the Sean Treacy Pipe Band leading the parade.
Cappawhite parade will begin at 11.30am and the organisers are using the event to raise money for the Neuro Surgery unit In Beaumont following the excellent care a local woman received at the hospital.
Templemore is organising a music Festival in the Square beginning at noon with the Thomas McDonagh Pipe Band and 8 other acts to entertain the attendees – this is scheduled to run until 3pm approximately. Joe Bourke, a local athletic hero, is special guest.
Thurles is hosting the traditional parade with participants due to leave the JYSK carpark on the Abbey Road at 2.15pm – this is typically one of the larger parades in the county with prizes on offer for a range of categories.
Cahir Parade will begin at noon from the Cahir Business Park – a Special Sensory area with quieter vehicles will be provided just after the reviewing stand at the Post Office.
Nenagh is offering both a Parade and a Festival – the Festival event in Banba Square will run from 11.30am to 5.30pm offering markets, entertainment and food vendors with the parade to begin at 1pm .
Tipperary town parade will begin at 2.30pm from The Plan area on the Limerick Road. The route of march is via O’Connell Road, to O’Brien Street to Main Street. A special feature this year is a PAWTRICK’S parade where people can march with their dog (on a lead and muzzled if necessary). Dee Morrissey will MC the event and live music(starting at 12.30pm) before the parade will be provided by Dee Morrissey, Stephen Stokes, Shauna Frewen, Lorcan Kennedy and Aaron O’Donoghue. Megan Heffernan is the Grand Marshall for the Tipperary town parade to mark her success in the field of ladies soccer in the USA.
The Parade in Clonmel is set for 3pm on Monday departing from the St Mary’s Parish Hall – the Tipperary Indian Community are taking part so this should add additional colour to the event. Local Olympic Medallist rower Daire Lynch will be Grand Marshall.
Roscrea Parade is set to start at 3.30pm from the public car park beside Tesco. Paul Spencer is the Grand Marshall and will lead the parade to the reviewing stand at Market Square on Main Street.
