Positive Update From Tipperary County Council Regarding N74 Road Works

Tipperary County Council is giving a positive update on the N74 Road works. The council says if the current rate of progress is maintained the entire project may be “substantially completed in May/June 2025.”

The Council accepts that the recent work at the Bansha Road junction has caused significant delays at times. Works at the junction are now focused on the N74 arm and it is expected that the new footpaths will be opened to the public on Friday 14th March.

To take the Friday traffic volumes into consideration Traffic Management restrictions will be removed from the roundabout by 1pm on Friday 14th, Friday 21st March (if safe to do so) and Friday 28th March (if works are delayed and Traffic Management is still in place at that date) according to the Council.

The contractor will be off site from the afternoon of Friday 14th March until the morning of Wednesday 19th March. It is hoped to complete the underground and footpath works at the junction by March 26th.  The removal of the existing road surface and laying of new road surface  is to commence in late March/early April.

The one-way system on the N74(Cashel Road) will remain in place for approximately a further 7-8 weeks. New footpaths on the left hand side of Fr. Mathew Street / N74  are scheduled to be completed, to St. Michaels Cemetery, by Thursday 10th April.

Traffic management at St Michael’s Graveyard and at the Bansha road Junction(N24/N74) will be removed for St Patrick’s weekend meaning the Junction will revert to operating as  a roundabout.

Cllr Anne Marie Ryan made a detailed request for amendments to the Traffic Management at Monday’s plenary meeting due to the extent of delays and gridlock in the town.
