Tipperary County Council is to meet today in Nenagh with a busy agenda including reports to councillors on Roads, planning, Town Centre First Unit, Just Transition, Emergency services Library services, Finance and IT.
6 councillors have submitted an application for a Section 140 Declaration that would ask the Council Executive to pause all Enforcement actions in respect of log cabin structures – it is unclear if this will be discussed today. The application is made on foot of the ongoing legal actions in respect of Mr Sean Meehan in New Inn. Mr Meehan is being prosecuted for creating a home for himself on his own land without planning permission.
In addition, Eibhlin Byrne, the Civil Engagement lead with responsibility for liaison between Councils and Communities as regards IPAS centres is to give an update. The Government is currently considering offers from Kilcoran Lodge Hotel near Cahir and Dundrum House Hotel to be given contracts as accommodation centres for people seeking asylum in Ireland.
There are two motions for Consideration on the agenda –
Cllr. Mairín McGrath wants the council to establish An Coiste Gaeilge, in order to improve the Irish language service offered by the Council and to develop a strategy to ensure targeted growth of the language in the wider community through pro-active initiatives.
Cllr. Anne Marie Ryan & Cllr. David Dunne are requesting that Tipperary County Council write to Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, requesting a referendum on providing a constitutional protection for the public ownership of water services as they believe public ownership of water services ensures safe and sustainable access to water for everyone.
