Amy Goldsboro To Take Over Council Seat Vacated By Senator Imelda Goldsboro

Amy Goldsboro is to take over the Council seat vacated by her mother Imelda who was recently appointed to the Seanad by the Taoiseach Michael Martin.

The Fianna Fail party held a selection convention in Mullinahone on Friday night and Amy Goldsboro, who is 21 emerged as the party choice for the seat on the Carrick on Suir Municipal District Council and the full County Tipperary Plenary Council. Ms Goldsboro lives in Ballingarry and is the youngest councillor in the county and one of the youngest in the country. 

Over 70 Fianna Fáil members from across the Municipal District voted in the convention which was contested by Miss Goldsboro and former councillor Sylvia Cooney-Sheehan. Kilkenny Fianna Fáil T.D. Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere chaired the Convention, with South Tipperary Fianna Fáil P.R.O. Paudie Taylor acting as Convention Secretary.

Ms Goldsboro is expressing thanks to her party members for their support and says “she looks forward to working very closely with you all very soon”.

The Convention was also attended by South Tipperary Fianna Fáil Chairperson John Flynn, South Tipperary Fianna Fáil Treasurer Seamus Troy, South Tipperary Fianna Fáil Assistant Secretary Majella Walsh, Fianna Fáil Árd Comhairle member Tim Maher, Cllr. Roger Kennedy (Cashel-Tipperary LEA), Cllr. Micheál Anglim (Cahir LEA) and Cllr. Seán Ryan (Thurles LEA).

The new councillor is to attend today’s plenary meeting in Nenagh and will be formally co-opted onto the Council to serve until the next Local Elections in 2029.
