Tipperary town councillor Anne Marie Ryan is appealing to Tipperary county council to modify the temporary traffic arrangements for major road works in the town.
The Sinn Fein councillor says the first four days of the extended road works this week resulted in the town being gridlocked at times leaving drivers and local residents annoyed and frustrated. The N74 Cashel Road project is over 1000m in length and now has a very rough road surfaces in many areas with a number of stop and go traffic management systems in place via traffic lights.
The works that started this week at the Bansha Road Roundabout – the intersection of the N24 and the N74 are due to continue until April 11th. The Councillor says the tailbacks especially at peak times are unacceptable. The Councillor suggests that the Council Roads Department request the contractor to remove restrictions on part of the Cashel road to allow inbound traffic as far as the James Connolly Park but says as “road experts” the Engineers and contractor, Glas Civil Engineering, should be able to find the best solution.
It is understood that Tipperary County Council are to review the first week of the new arrangements and may be able to make improvements next week based on data from traffic queues and feedback from An Garda Siochana.
