Tipperary woman Alison Fogarty is to commence a 180 km walk today over a number of days that will be completed March 13th. Ms Fogarty is undertaking the walk to celebrate the first anniversary of her kidney transplant, to raise awareness for organ donation, and fundraise for the Irish Kidney Association, the charity that has supported her throughout her journey. Donations can be made at this link here.
Each day Ms Fogarty hopes to walk 25 km at various venues in West Tipperary until the final day when the walk moves to Dublin to reach Beaumont Hospital where she received a life-saving kidney transplant a year ago after nine years of dialysis treatment. Her journey will conclude at sunset at the historic Rock of Cashel, illuminated in purple, one of the Irish Kidney Association’s signature colours on the evening of March 13th.
Today and tomorrow the walk begins at 11am at the Canon Hayes Sports Complex track in Tipperary town, on Saturday and Tuesday the walk begins 11am in the Glen of Aherlow and on Sunday and Monday the walk is in Dundrum Woods. The penultimate walk, on Wednesday, 12th March, will return to the Sports Complex Running Track in Tipperary Town, starting at 11am.
On the final day, World Kidney Day on 13th March, the walk moves to Dublin before returning that evening for the finale at the Rock of Cashel.
