There has been a further incident of vehicles being attacked by missiles near Cashel. A coach operator claims that one of its vehicles was struck on Thursday night at about 10pm as it travelled near the flyover at Junction 7. The vehicle had 52 passengers on board – students and teachers returning from an event in Cahir. No injuries were reported and the incident was reported to Gardaí at the time.
The owner of the transport company also contacted Cllr Liam Browne to ask that some action be taken. The company says it is difficult enough to run a business without the threat of this kind of damage. Cllr Browne is calling on anyone with a similar experience to report the matter to Garda, Public representatives and the media to ensure the extent of the problem is highlighted which will pressure various organisations such as An Garda Siochana, Transport Infrastructure Ireland etc. to try to get such behaviour stopped before there are serious injuries or possibly fatalities.
On February 12th several HGVs had windshields damaged in a similar incident on the M7 near Nenagh. The Irish Road Haulage Association says the offence needs to be taken seriously and that regardless of the age of the offender there must be a serious penalty including custodial sentences for the perpetrators of such an offence.
Tipp Mid West Radio has sought a response from An Garda Siochana and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
