The possible creation of an IPAS Centre at Kilcoran Lodge Hotel is the subject of conflicting reports.
The Department responsible for finding accommodation for asylum seekers in Ireland says that it is considering the offer of the hotel which has 22 bedrooms for such a contract. The Management at the Hotel says that there has been no change in its status since November 2024 when the Hotel was up for sale. The hotel’s operation manager says “no agreement has been reached with any party regarding the sale of the Hotel. No preferred purchaser for the Hotel has been identified and the Hotel has had no contact whatsoever with the Department or any other body regarding IPAS.”
When asked about this the Department responded that the hotel has been offered and that the offer continues to be assessed. The department statement goes on to say that “Offers can be received from a property owner, or another person who has authority to offer the accommodation to the Department, for example, a leaseholder. As part of the appraisal process, IPAS confirms that the person who has made an offer is authorised to do so.”
The State is currently accommodating over 33,000 people in over 320 international protection accommodation centres around the country.
