TDs Welcomes News Of Seven New Special Classes At Tipperary Post-Primary schools

Tipperary TDs are welcoming news that the Department of Education is giving sanction for seven new Special Classes at Post-Primary schools in the county.

The seven new classes are to be provided in St Anne’s Secondary School and the Abbey school in Tipperary town, Newport Post Primary School, Thurles CBS, Patrician Presentation Post-Primary in Fethard, St. Joseph’s CBS Nenagh and St Mary’s Secondary School in Nenagh.

Overall, Minister McEntee’s office has announced 209 new Special Classes across the country. It is intended that more classes will be confirmed as the National Council for Special Education continues engagement with school patron bodies.  This is continuing in order to reach the target of 400 classes at Post Primary level – however severe deficits remain in terms of places at primary school level with families receiving multiple rejection letters from neighbouring primary schools.

The next step is for these Post Primary schools to proceed with admission processes and Minister Helen McEntee has asked that the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) work with these schools to ensure that they move to offer places to students over the coming weeks.
