Garda in Tipperary have acted on an arrest warrant issued on February 20th by Judge Brian O’Shea in respect of New Inn man Sean Meehan.
Garda contacted Mr Meehan by telephone yesterday and he offered to make his own way to Clonmel Courthouse to have the matter resolved. The warrant was issued when Mr Meehan failed to attend a planning enforcement hearing in Cashel Court on February 20th. Judge O’Shea issued the warrant as Mr Meehan had entered a guilty plea in 2022 in respect of breaches of Planning Regulations and despite applications to Tipperary County Council and An Bord Pleanála, Mr Meehan has not been able to secure planning permission for his home near New Inn. Tipperary County Council commenced Enforcement proceedings for the unauthorised home on foot of a complaint from a member of the public.
Mr Meehan attended the Court in Clonmel and is now out on bail on his own bond of €300. His case will be heard next at Cashel District Court on Thursday March 6th.
Mr Meehan, aged 66, is also taking a High Court Action seeking a Judicial Review in respect of An Bord Pleanála’s refusal of permission late last year. Mr Meehan’s home is a mobile home with Log Cabin Type Cladding to provide extra warmth and space on land he owns near New Inn. Mr Meehan hopes that his case may lead to changes in planning laws that will benefit other people.
Tom Hennessy, who ran in the Local Elections last year, attended the Court with Mr Meehan and has since posted a short video with Mr Meehan as they left the Courthouse.
