Tributes have been paid in the Dáil and locally following the death of a former Fine Gael Councillor Joe Bourke. The Clonmore man died on Tuesday after a short illness – he was 63.
Party College Deputy Michael Murphy paid tribute in the Dáil recalling having Mr Bourke in Leinster House just a few weeks ago. Deputy Murphy describes Joe Bourke as a man of exceptional traits and character and a real positive force within his community and extended his sympathy to Mr Bourke’s family. Mr Bourke had served as councillor on the Templemore Town Council, Tipperary County Council and as a member of the Southern Regional Assembly. Former TD and councillor Noel Coonan, based in Templemore, says Joe was proud of his work as a councillor and was well respected.
His funeral will be held in St. Anne’s Church Clonmore this Friday with Mass at noon followed by interment in St Joseph’s Cemetery. Mr Bourke is predeceased by his wife Veronica and survived by his three children, 6 brothers, extended family and a wide circle of friends.
Thurles MD is to hold a special meeting tomorrow as a mark of respect to Joe Bourke. The meeting will be held in the Templemore Library Enterprise Centre, Main Street, Templemore at 10.30a.m.
