The latest report by Daft.ie into the home rental market shows that Market rents in Tipperary increased by 12.2% in the last quarter of 2024, with the average rent now standing at €1,436 per month. The figure is a 67% increase on pre-pandemic rates as the housing crisis continues. The Daft.ie report shows that advertised rents nationally increased by an average of 5.7% last year – a slightly lower rate of increase than the 6.8% recorded in 2023.

The average rent on the open market nationally is €1,956 which is 43% higher than pre 2020. The report is compiled by economist Ronan Lyons who says the data gives no indication that the housing crisis will be resolved any time soon.

As of 1st  February , there were fewer than 2,300 homes available to rent across the country, well below the 2015-2019 average of almost 4,400. The government is said to be considering removing rent restrictions to attract more investors into the housing market – the data shows that Rents for movers have increased by almost half since rent controls were tightened in 2021, while rents for ‘stayers’ have risen by just seven percent in the same period.
