A number of Landmarks around the country are to be lit up in Green today to mark world CCA day. CCA is a form of Bile Duct Cancer officially termed Cholangiocarcinoma.
Karen Dunne, who lives near Bansha is leading the work of creating greater awareness of the cancer after her husband Kieran died from the disease last September. The couple have three children ranging in ages from 10 to 17 years.
Mr Dunne was 49 and had only received his diagnosis in early 2024. Mr Dunne worked for Boston Scientific and had initially put down his swollen ankles to the extensive air travel he completed. Karen Dunne is responsible for today’s observance of World CCA day for the first time in Ireland and is leading the work of a Support Group to help others with a similar diagnosis.Among the buildings to go Green today are The Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, The Dunbrody Famine Ship, Tipperary University Hospital, Boston Scientific Plants in Clonmel, Cork and Galway and the Town Hall and County Hall Buildings in Clonmel. The group operates a website at www.cholangiocarcinomaireland.ie
