There was a serious incident on the M7 Motorway last evening as at least a dozen lorries were damaged as rocks were thrown at the vehicles on a stretch of the motorway between Birdhill and Nenagh. Gardaí at Newport are investigating incidents of criminal damage and endangerment to vehicles that occurred on the M7 at Castlecranna at 7pm approximately.
In some cases, the windscreens were smashed or the missile hit the paintwork on the vehicle. The vehicles involved stopped along the M7 where the speed limit is 120km/hr. The incident happened after dusk adding to the danger for road users as the drivers tried to survey the damage to their vehicles.
Gardaí say no injuries were reported. No arrests have been made to date.
