The Dillon Quirke Foundation has been selected as one of the official GAA charity partners for the 2025 season. Each year the GAA invites applications and selects four charities to support.
The family of the late Dillon Quirke, a senior hurler with Clonoulty Rossmore and Tipperary established the foundation after Dillon’s sudden death at Semple Stadium due to a cardiac issue in August 2022. The Foundation aims to fund cardiac screening for children in all sports to help identify any child with an unknown heart condition that could pose a risk to their life. As of the end of 2024 10,128 cardiac screenings have been conducted in every county in Ireland in partnership with 275 sports clubs, including GAA, soccer, rugby, boxing and performing arts clubs.
Each charity will receive €25,000 to support its initiatives, along with valuable exposure through GAA platforms about it’s contribution to society. Dillon Quirke’s father Dan says the family are grateful for the GAA’s selection of the charity and adds that the collaboration can save the lives of young athletes. Approximately 100 people die each year in Ireland from Sudden Adult Death.
The other three charities selected to be a GAA Charity Partner for 2025 are Finding Charlie’s Voice, The Men’s Development Network and Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann/Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (ONE).
