Tipperary town Tidy Towns group is being asked to support the St Patrick’s Day committee in securing insurance. Chairperson Paul O’Callaghan says the two groups may have to collaborate and effectively merge to ensure the event planned for March 17th is fully insured.

The members of both groups are to meet on Wednesday February 12th at 7pm in the Porterhouse, Bank Place to consider the issue. The regular Tidy Towns Meeting agenda also includes a vote of sympathy in respect of recent bereavements, updates on finances and the placement of planters around Tipperary town, an update on plans for a wildflower meadow in the Tipperary hills and the issue of the Parade and the possible election of a subcommittee to organise the St Patrick’s day Parade.

Meanwhile details of the Parade in Thurles have been confirmed – the parade will step off at 2.15pm from the Abbey Road on the west end of town. The Thurles St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee are seeking support from participants in the parade which features a theme of “Mythical Ireland, in the time of St. Patrick” – the theme is open to interpretation by each club or organisation taking part.

Entry forms are available on the Thurles.ie website or from Thurles MD Offices or Thurles Tourist Office on Slievenamon Road, Thurles or email John Kenehan at [email protected]. Before and during the parade, Liberty Square will offer live music, face-painting, and plenty of side attractions to keep everyone entertained.
