Imelda Goldsboro, based in Ballingarry,  has been nominated as one of the Taoiseach’s 11 Nominees to the Seanad.

The Fianna Fail councillor resigned her seat on Tipperary County Council shortly after the Taoiseach’s phone call on Friday and will today begin a new public representative role as Senator. Over the course of the last 8 months Ms Goldsboro has contested the Council elections in the Carrick on Suir MD where she topped the poll, the Dáil Election in November narrowly losing out to Seamus Healy TD, and the recent Seanad Election where she was unsuccessful on the Agricultural Panel.

Ms Goldsboro says it is a huge honour to be selected by An Taoiseach Micheal Martin and is also thanking well wishers on behalf of herself, her husband and 3 children.

The hugely popular councillor was appointed as Leas Cathaoirleach of Tipperary county council last Summer and to the role of chair of the Planning Strategic Policy Committee. The local Fianna Fail branch will now select a replacement for the council seat in conjunction with Fianna Fail headquarters with the co-opted person being in office until the 2029 Council elections.

Ms Goldsboro’s appointment to the Seanad means that South Tipperary has 3 TDs in Seamus Healy, Mattie McGrath and Michael Murphy and two senators living in the South Tipperary Garret Ahearn and now Senator Goldsboro although Senators are not specifically representing a constituency.
