The new Deer Management Strategy programme is to be managed by FRS Co-Op headquartered in Roscrea, county Tipperary.
The Co-Op is active in every town and village across the country and employs 2,000 people across a number of different sectors.
These include farming, fencing, recruitment, employment support, Government services and training.
The programme manager will also be responsible for the establishment of 15 local Deer Management Units as efforts will be made to restrict the number of wild deer in Ireland.
Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon says that “For agriculture, as well as nature ecosystems, it is important to deliver the sustainable management of the national deer population in addition to impacts on road safety, animal health, public health, and not least the health and welfare of the deer themselves.
Deer densities in Wicklow in particular, but also in parts of Tipperary, Waterford, Donegal and Galway, are above a sustainable level for land management activities according to the Department of Agriculture.
