Tipperary County Council exceeded the target set for the county by the Department of Housing for new social home delivery in 2024 – the Department target for the county was 159 – the total delivered was 180 new homes.
The scale of the problem is underlined by the fact that 3,426 applicants are currently approved for social housing in the county in addition to others who may be homeless at present.
The largest housing list is in Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District(MD) with 864 people on the list followed by 841 in Thurles Templemore, 765 in Nenagh, 584 approved social housing applicants in Clonmel and 372 in the Carrick on Suir MD.
The Department set a target of 170 new social housing units for the county in 2025 – the Council’s Housing Section is expecting to deliver 259 new social homes this year.
