Tipperary town Creative Places is inviting members of the community to avail of two free workshops with artist Brigid Teehan on Saturday(February 1st) afternoon to mark St Brigid’s Day.
The workshops are provided free of charge and all materials will be supplied at the Creative Places Building on Bridge Street. Any participant that would like to use their own material to make a Brideog doll is welcome to do so. Ms Teehan will also share details about the life and legacy of St Brigid and the traditions associated with the female Patron Saint of Ireland.
The event includes a family event from 1pm to 2.30pm and an adult only workshop from 3pm to 4.30pm. The Creative Places Programme aims to increase the participation of people in creative activities and also to support those who are ambitious to be full time artists in any art form.
A related event will take place at Cashel Library on Friday morning(January 31st). Librarian Maura Barrett will give a talk about St Brigid at 11am and then provide a workshop to make St Brigid Crosses beginning at noon. Places for the free events can be booked by calling the library on 062-63856.
The St Brigid’s Day permanent public holiday was established in 2023 in celebration of Imbolc/St Brigid’s Day. This will be the first Monday in every February, except where St. Brigid’s Day, the 1st day of February, happens to fall on a Friday, in which case Friday 1st February will be a public holiday.
