Voting for the five panels that fill 43 senate seats will close at 11am today and the count will commence shortly after the polls close – it will be Monday before the final results are known with one panel completed each day.
Five public representatives in County Tipperary are candidates including outgoing Senator Garret Ahearn and councillors Mairin McGrath, Declan Burgess, Imelda Goldsboro and Richie Molloy.
The panel to be completed today is the Cultural and Education panel where Councillor Mairin McGrath is thought to have a good chance of securing one of the 5 seats.
Imelda Goldsboro is also considered to have a good possibility for success running on the Agricultural Panel which appoints 11 senators and these votes will be counted tomorrow
On Saturday the Labour panel votes will be counted, on Sunday the Industry panel contest includes Cllr Declan Burgess who is considered to have a chance of success and finally on Monday the seven Senate Seats on the Administrative Panel will be filled with Senator Gareth Ahearn and Councillor Molloy in the contest.
6 other senate seats will be filled by the two University Panels and the Taoiseach, Micheal Martin, will nominate 11 others to reach the total of 60 Senators in Seanad Eireann.
