ESB networks reports that approximately 133,000 customers remain without electricity today. For some customers it is 6 days since they lost supply due to the severe wind storms last weekend. Skilled technicians from Austria, Finland and Great Britain now on the ground in the worst impacted areas while further support is arriving from France this afternoon
The ESB is again warning the public after several instances of potentially very dangerous situations where members of the public have unknowingly approached fallen electricity infrastructure, particularly in the worst impacted areas of the country. The company warns that fallen debris can prevent people from seeing hidden risks such as wires entangled into trees and branches. Any fallen lines or other damage can be reported to the company by calling 1800 372 999. Estimated Restoration times are posted on the www.powercheck.ie website.
The company has restored supply to an estimated 635,000 customers. The company says that due to the damage in some areas there could be 100,000 without power until next week and that work on repairing street lighting is not a priority at present – such outages have been reported in Tipperary town, Oola and Dundrum.
ESB networks says there have also been scam text messages purporting to come from ESB Networks. Customers are advised not to engage directly with these messages, not to share any personal information if asked, and to block and report the suspicious number if necessary.
