ESB Crews are now repairing faults and over 3,000 customers served by the Garrancanty substation east of Tipperary town have had power restored today – several hundred more people are without power in West Tipperary.
ESB Networks are dealing with a major number of faults with over 725,000 people nationwide without power as of 12.30pm today. As crews assess the situation, the estimated time for repairs will be posted on the powercheck.ie website. It is expected to take up to a week to repair all faults across the country. ESB networks advising the public to treat any fallen wires as being live and dangerous. ESB networks can be contacted by telephoning 1800 372 999.
The public are asked to report incidents of trees down to the Council by calling a new Severe Weather phone line at 0818 06 5001. The usual customer service desk will be in operation at 0818 06 5000/6000 and the new dedicated Severe Weather number 0818 06 5001 will be staffed until 10pm today(Friday) and between 9am and 1pm tomorrow (Saturday January 25th) The out of hours number (0818 06 5003) will be activated between 10pm tonight until Saturday at 9am
Tipperary county council says a significant number of roads across the county are impassable due to fallen trees. A full list of known and verified road closures per district is available on the Council’s website. www.tipperarycoco.ie. Council staff are in the process of assessing and clearing roads blocked with fallen trees and other debris. The council crews will prioritise works around any areas of danger to the public, acute social/medical need and clearing the road network. Road clearing will progress from National to Regional to Local routes in that priority. The recovery work is likely to continue into early next week.
Council staff will also be out salting the roads included in the Council’s Winter Maintenance plan tonight as low temperatures are forecast.
