Met Eireann has extended the Red Weather to cover all of Ireland as Storm Éowyn approaches Ireland from the West. The Red warnings have different start and end times – the red warning for county Tipperary is in effect from 6am until 11am on Friday (updated today), for county Limerick and county Cork the warning is from 2am to 10am on Friday – a Status Orange wind warning will come into effect midnight tonight until 4pm on Friday afternoon.
The current Met Eireann warnings can be seen at this link here.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group is to meet at 10am today and will then issue further advice but expects that Storm Éowyn will probably be among the “severest storms” that Ireland has ever seen. The group warns of the ferocious winds that are likely to cause disruption to services, fallen trees, power outages and be a risk to life. Power outages are likely all across the country meaning that it will take several days to restore supply.
All schools will be closed tomorrow, business services, transport and events may be cancelled or operate with altered hours. Tipperary town Meals on Wheels service is to make a double delivery today and will be closed tomorrow Friday. Cashel Meals on Wheels hopes to deliver as usual on Saturday as it’s normal delivery days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – serving over 60 individuals.
Tipperary Musical Society is to hold it’s box office for next month’s Rock of Ages show on Monday January 27th instead of Friday as planned.
Tipperary county council is warning that Storm Éowyn poses significant risk to life. The public is strongly urged not to travel on Friday during the Red Weather Warning and to avoid unnecessary travel after it passes, as the extremely strong winds will result in fallen trees and power lines, destruction to property, flying debris, road blockages, and cancellations of events and transport.
Residents in affected areas are advised to shelter in place, secure their property, and avoid unnecessary risks. Essential services will continue operating based on advice from Met Éireann, the public are advised to prepare for power outages and ensure mobile phones are fully charged and to stay away from fallen live wires and report any issues to ESB Networks immediately (1800 372 999).
Outside of normal business hours the Council’s emergency number will be available at 0818 06 5003 – the Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm number is 0818 06 5000.
