An Garda Síochána today issued advice to the public in advance of the severe wind storm. County Tipperary is under a Status Red wind warning from 6am until 11am tomorrow Friday while County Limerick, Kerry and cork alongside other counties are under a Status Red wind warning between 2am and 10am tomorrow – weather updates are available at met.ie.

An Garda Síochána is warning that members of the public that a Status Red severe weather warning means ‘shelter in place’.  People should stay indoors during the warning and avoid unnecessary travel and take action to protect themselves and their properties.  An Garda Síochána and other blue light emergency services will be on duty but depending on local weather conditions may not be in a position to respond to help during the height of Storm Éowyn, subject to risk assessments.  The public are asked to not put themselves or members of the emergency services at risk during this period.

Members of the Public should ensure that property, garden furniture, children’s toys including trampolines and other loose materials including bins are secured. In addition, Garda ask that the community check in on isolated and vulnerable family, friends and neighbours making sure they are aware of and prepared for the storm event.

Extensive Power outages are expected and ESB Networks can be contacted at 1800 372 999 and updates will be posted on www.powercheck.ie – the advice is to charge devices early tonight.  The Council’s Emergency Number is 0818 06 5003 while the normal Council number is 0818 06 5000 during office hours 9.30am to 4.30pm. Garda say members of the public should not rush to clear fallen trees as there may be other dangerous trees nearby.

The Garda also remind the public that A Status Orange Wind Warning is also in place for the entire country from midnight tonight until 4pm tomorrow Friday 24th.

An Garda Síochána appeals to every person using the public roads to Slow Down, Expect the Unexpected and Stay Safe.
