Status Red Wind Warning Announced For All But Four South East Counties

All but four counties in the south east of Ireland are now under a Status Red Wind Warning from overnight Thursday into Friday.
The wind storm named Éowyn, (Ay-oh-win) is expected to bring Gale to storm force southerly winds becoming westerly with severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h.
The warning comes into effect in County Tipperary from 6.00am on Friday January 24th  to noon on Friday January 24th.  Counties Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon and most of Leinster are included with Tipperary. Only Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford are excluded from the Red Warning.
In counties Limerick, Kerry and Cork the Red Warning is in effect from 2am on Friday until 10.00am while in counties Clare and Galway the warning is in effect between 3am on Friday and noon. Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo are under the Red Wind warning from 4am to noon on Friday. County Donegal has a red wind warning from 6am until 3pm on Friday. All of Ireland is under a Status Orange wind warning from 2am until 5pm on Friday while Cork and Kerry are under a Status Yellow rain warning from 9pm tomorrow evening until 3am on Friday.
Red is the highest level of warning issued by Met Eireann and means that people should take action to protect themselves and/or their properties; this could be by moving their families out of the danger zone temporarily; by staying indoors; or by other specific actions aimed at mitigating the effects of the weather conditions. Schools are advised to not open in the case of a Red warning.
Met Eireann is warning of possible danger to life, significant and widespread power outages, extremely dangerous travelling conditions, the need to cancel events, unsafe working conditions, fallen trees, structural damage and also disruption and cancellations to transport services and wave overtopping and coastal flooding in low lying and exposed areas.
