Councillors in the Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD were notified yesterday that the Ukrainian refugees being accommodated in Dundrum House Hotel complex were informed last Friday January 10th that they would not be accommodated in Dundrum past February 7th.

Councillors received the news in an email from the Council’s Integration team. There are approximately 60 Ukrainian refugees in Dundrum at present and they have now been told that alternative accommodation will be found elsewhere for them. Many of the refugees from Ukraine are working and attending school locally.

Councillors were also informed that the Department of Integration has also received a formal offer for the use of the property for International Protection Applicants and that the Department is currently appraising this offer.  In 2024, the Department assessed that the complex could offer 277 beds. A local group has maintained a protest at the gate since May last year in opposition to the creation of an IPAS accommodation centre at the complex and instead want the facility to be used as a social, recreation and tourism venue.  Dundrum village has a population of 221.
