The Tipperary International Peace Convention has revoked the nomination of current US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, for it’s 2024 Award.
The list of 13 nominations were released on January 6th and there was criticism of the committee for accepting the nomination of Secretary Blinken for consideration for the Award leading to an online petition requesting that the nomination be revoked. The petition, which is now closed, was set up by the Cashel for Palestine Group.
In a statement to Tipp Mid West Radio the Peace Convention says “In view of the public feeling about the nomination the Committee of Tipperary Peace Convention has decided to remove his name from consideration for the Award.
In their online petition, the Cashel group said that Secretary Blinken’s policies are in direct contradiction to the core values of peace, justice, and humanitarianism that the Tipperary Peace Prize seeks to uphold”.
The remaining 12 nominations will now be considered with the recipient expected to be announced by the end of March.
