Tipperary County Council is to hold the January meeting of the full 40 councillors today.
The agenda includes an update on last week’s severe weather event from Liam Brett, the council’s Director of Services for Roads, Transportation and Health and Safety.
Councillor John O’Heney is critical of Met Éireann and believes many parts of County Tipperary were so badly hit by the recent weather that a Red Weather Warning should have been issued.
The Independent councillor believes outside resources should have been and needed to be sought to aid Council efforts.
Councillor O’Heney says he also intends to seek the implementation of a Community Centred Action Plan for future extreme weather events.
Staff from five functional areas will give their monthly update to councillors today – these are Roads as mentioned, the Planning section, Emergency Services and Emergency Planning, Library, Cultural Services and Biodiversity and Finance and Information Technology sections of the Council.
The meeting today will also consider a number of small land disposals in Cahir, Cloughjordan and Templemore and appoint councillors to a number of committees including the Tipperary Transport unit, the North Tipperary Genealogy Committee and the Economic Development and Enterprise Strategic Policy Committee(SPC) and the Social Inclusion Community and Rural Development SPC.
The meeting will take place in the Nenagh Council office and is due to start at 10am.
